TYCW Retreat 2005

What fun! And to think, I almost didn’t go. The day started out kinda slowly, what with my not having a section for sectionals and being shafted to the MIDI room with the tubas. The sectional guy was a tuba player and didn’t really know what to do with me. So I just sorta chilled. But I do need to play with more feeling and so forth.
Lunch was pretty cool, lots of food went uneaten, but more on that later. The highlight of lunchtime was the Mentos/pop thing. I’ll link to the video once I’ve got it up. Basically, potassium+glucose+carbonation=FWOOOSH. Yeah. Fun stuff. After that, came an actual rehearsal. The rehearsal was standard, a lady who does the OPHB stuff came in to conduct. It was cool. My reed wouldn’t speak on the high notes which lead to ridiculous frustration.

Lesson 1: Don’t sweat the petty things

A lot of stuff had been piling up recently and not being able to hit a stupid Ab sort of broke the dam and got very pissed off at myself. Dana helped snap me back to reality, and I cheered up during the drum and dance workshop. A LOT of fun, but the room heated up very quickly

Lesson 2: Don’t pet the sweaty things

Yeah. Dancing was insanely fun. Lots of giggling at the akwardness of some, much enjoyment of Reid’s utter enthusiasm. Random dance circle thing. “I like peanut butter/I like jam.” “I like macaroni/I like cheese.” “Stop your whining!” The entire thing lead to me and Steph longing for Caribana to arrive.

“I LOVE SOCA!”

After the workshop we were all icky and a little tired, but we helped bring the drums out. Then it came time to either eat or take home leftovers. Agnes, Reid, Mike, Evelyn, Mike, Goldie, Dana and I took a lot of stuff for the movie after it. Mike S. managed to fit like, 15 pop in his backpack. What a champ. And in case you’re wondering what happened to the ridiculous amounts of leftovers… I’d like to take this moment to thank the good boys of St. Mike’s for eating the like, three pizzas we had left over. Took a moment at the door to shove lots of pop in various bags and so forth, talked to cute emo boy who liked my glasses. Left, singing the Mario theme very very loudly and banging things with drumsticks.

Speaking of banging, the number of sexual innuendos made throughout the day borders on obscene.

Lots and lots of strange looks on the subway. I nearly fell off Mike L’s lap at least twice. You don’t understand how ridiculous we were being. Then to Yorkdale! I walked into a pole. The blind woman walking next to me didn’t. We’re not going to talk about that again. We spent a lot of time doing absolutely nothing, just hanging out and being our rambunctious, fun loving selves. I tripped over stairs and got my skirt wet in the fountain. There was a bird taking a bath in the fountain. Agnes left early.

I don’t even remember the stuff we did before the movie, I honestly think we just sat around and were loud. Pictures were taken, Polish accents were used badly (”CHELLO MY FRIEND.”). The elevator and getting left behind. Saw “She’s the man”. Interesting adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night”. CATFIGHTS. “Do you like…cheese?” Ogling pretty boys. Deciding men are assholes, girls are dumb, and braces are cute. Reid and I dancing like fools to the movie’s (bad!) soundtrack. After the movie, we just sort of hung out. Soap opera DRAMA… Goldie’s bag exploded… “There’s a time and a place!” A bit more randomness, completely losing track of Mike S… Then Reid knowing he went to get frozen yogurt the entire time but having his Mikes confused.

Subway with Reid and Mike. Random discussions, running into MRC. Good stuff. Bus with Reid. William Shatner impression. Reid can’t speak German. Home. Sleep. Waking up sore and tired. No lesson. Passport photo. Home. Nifty speakers. Tired and confused. Bedtime is now.

So, who’s up for next Saturday?
