ATTN Concert Choir: STFU.

-Throws martini glass at wall, where it promptly shatters-

SERIOUSLY. Oh my freaking gosh. It’s getting insanely annoying. Like, I want to just get one giant hand and hit everyone.

This is why we’re doing easy, boring, non-challenging pieces. This is why the senior members and those who joined choir for the love of music are getting annoyed and reluctant to show up. This is why everyone’s complaining about how bad we are.

Just whose fault do we think that is?

IT’S OURS. It’s the fault of the choir as a whole, or to be more specific the large portion of the choir who is unfocused, who shows up late for rehearsal, who ignores Ms. Houghton’s instructions, who doesn’t practise, and who talks whenever his or her section is not singing. It’s these people who are dragging our choir down.

I know that a lot of you are only in the choir because you took vocal, but that does NOT mean you distract and annoy the people who are here because they love music and love to sing! You’re taking away from the group. And to those of you who complain about rehearsals and are only there because your friends are there or because you want to go on the trip and don’t sing anyway: If you don’t like it, get out. Leave. The door is RIGHT THERE. We can save money on photocopying your music, maybe put it towards music or folders or something. Something beneficial.

We can do better than ‘Jingle Bells’.

We seriously have the potential to be SO MUCH better than we are, but we’re not. We’re stuck doing lame, easy pieces because we haven’t shown we’re focused and dedicated enough to do so. It is NOT necessary to talk about random stuff while Ms. H is talking to another section. THAT IS WHAT THE TIME BEFORE AND AFTER REHEARSAL IS FOR. Just because Ms. Houghton isn’t rehearsing your section doesn’t mean you’re not being rehearsed. This is when you listen to other parts to see where yours fits in! This is where you go over your part (IN YOUR HEAD) to further solidify it! This is when you circle things that need to be practised! THIS IS NOT WHEN YOU TALK TO THE PERSON NEXT TO YOU ABOUT WHAT YOU HAD FOR LUNCH! IT IS IRRELEVANT AND DETRIMENTAL TO THE CHOIR AS A WHOLE.

So sit down, SHUT UP, and LISTEN. FOCUS. You just might learn something.

  2. This is so freaking true. Tiger is good, but even THAT seems to be beyond our level just because we can’t do anything.

If you’re in a choir or a band, you practice.

If you don’t, you suck, and you drag the level of the ensemble down.

Then you complain about it sucking so you don’t practice.
